If you install the kernel-source-2.4.18-18.8.0.i386.rpm and compile the kernel with a seemingly unrelated change (example: changing only the processor option from Pentium II to Pentium III in menuconfig), and reboot with the new kernel, a USB mouse will no longer work.
This has been true of all the kernels packaged for Red Hat 8.0.Methinks something was overlooked. The stock kernels work fine with USB mice. A recompile for any reason will disable said USB mouse.
