i'm thinking of putting a couple home machines on a wireless LAN, and
i'm interested if anyone else has advice on the following.

  currently, there are two machines:

1) desktop running windows XP
2) laptop running red hat 8.0

currently, both of those are plugged into a linksys 4-port dsl/cable
router (which acts as a DHCP server), while the router itself is plugged
into a dsl modem, all of which works just fine.

i'd like to make the laptop wireless, so the obvious purchase is the
linksys wireless access point router with a 4-port switch. allegedly,
it's got the same 4-port configuration so the desktop can stay the way
it is. the only change (as i was told) is that it's *exactly* the same
as the 4-port wired unit, but with an added wireless access point.

and once that's done, a choice for pcmcia wireless card. while i've
heard great things about orinoco cards, if the related linksys card
works, one would think that that would be a safe choice to go with
the router.

if i can verify that this would work, i'd like to order real soon
now.

  comments?

p.s. in terms of prices, the router is priced at $90 at buy.com, while
the pcmcia card is $60. not overly expensive to start going wireless.
