postfix with SASL

Has anyone gotten postfix to work with SASL on RH8? I've tried all the different modes of auth and can't get it to work. I tried copying the SASLDB to /var/spool/postfix/etc/ and editing the smtpd.conf to reflect sasldb... nada. Followed the instructions in /usr/share/doc... once again... nada.

Any thoughts?
