Yes it is. You're probably thinking of Xconfigurator.
I was thinking about xf86cfg, the GUI tool.
xf86config has never been plesent to work with :)
I've always mixed the 2 up.
Still xf86config is not realy a configuration tool.
It will create a config file, but a very generic one.
