Okay,
I signed in to gnome (or blue-whatever-they-are-calling-it) and
managed to fix xmms...not exactly sure how...
It seems, however, that sound record was not sapping the sound card, KCDplayer, or
whatever they call it, was. Not sure why that was running, possibly because I had a
CD of Gregorian chants in the drive. No matter, XMMS is up and running.
I am presently listening to a delicious blend of folk and bluegrass
delicacies by such great artists as Bruce Cockburn, Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Del
McCoury, Bill Monroe and more! (Don't you wish you were here?)
Now, I tried to reinstall RealPlayer, and was told that it was already installed, but,
as I said before, I can't seem to find it anywhere, so I can't even remove it to
reinstall with my limited knowledge.
Also, even signed in as root, I could not install java runtime support (blackdown,
which I downloaded from Sun). I was told "Permission Denied" when I tried to run the
install script.
I really want to get my printer issues resolved, too. The driver worked fabulously in
7.2, but the installation hangs before completion no matter what I try, now.
Really, installing java runtime support and resolving my printer issues are far higher
priorities than media players. They are both essential.
