Gcc3.2 has -mcpu=athlon. I compiled a kernel with that option yesterday and it hasn't crashed yet. Of course, that doesn't prove that it's safe for general use.
But Gcc-3.2 isn't required for the kernel.
/usr/src/linux*/Documentation/Changes lists 2.95.3 as the
minimum version. How's -mcpu=athlon on that version?
