burning cd's

Hello all,
Can somebody point me to a tutorial for burning cd-r,
I'm using xcdroast, it works fine, burns the cd-r or cd-rw,
verification is also fine.
but afterwards I can't open the cd in Linux, but no problem to open the same
cd in windows, huh?
What am I missing?
