Yeah, but changes through fdisk on a mounted volume don't take effect until reboot, no? (Swap space can certainly be enabled while mounted.)

 say what?  i've numerous times added a swap partition to
a running system with a combination of fdisk/mkswap/swapon.
has this changed?
