Have you tried to narrow it down, comparing the "rpm -qa" package lists of the working workstation install and your non-working install? Maybe it's something in the rpm -qa '*gtk*' , rpm -qa '*python*' or rpm -qa '*xml*' groups that is not hardcoded as a dependency. --
