That's all the output? I see (On a 7.3 system):
# rpm -e -vvv xf86-corefonts
D: opening  db environment /var/lib/rpm/Packages create:mpool
D: opening  db index       /var/lib/rpm/Packages  mode=0x82
D: locked   db index       /var/lib/rpm/Packages
D: opening  db index       /var/lib/rpm/Name  mode=0x82
D: ========== --- xf86-corefonts-0.1-5
D: opening  db index       /var/lib/rpm/Requirename  mode=0x82
D: opening  db index       /var/lib/rpm/Basenames  mode=0x82
D:     erase: xf86-corefonts-0.1-5 has 17 files, test = 0
D: opening  db index       /var/lib/rpm/Triggername  mode=0x82
D:     erase: running %preun script(s) (if any)

Nothing wrong with that output, as long as the file is ok.
$ ls /var/lib/rpm/Packages
/var/lib/rpm/Packages
$ ll /var/lib/rpm/Packages
- -rw-r--r--    1 rpm      rpm      22523904 Oct  1 23:34
/var/lib/rpm/Packages
$ ls /var/lib/rpm
Basenames     Filemd5s    Name         Provideversion  Sha1header
Conflictname  Group       Packages     Requirename     Sigmd5
Dirnames      Installtid  Providename  Requireversion  Triggername

You might try rpm --rebuilddb, and then try uninstalling the package
again.
