Complex answer: MS Chap2 an ACPI functionality. 

As far as I know, the CHAP2 implementation is not included in the normal
kernel. This, for instance, is necessary for my internet connection to
work ( Austrian PPTP, ... ).

The second reason I can think of are the ACPI extensions for my
notebook, which I do want to use again after migrating, and therefore I
need to recompile the whole thing.
