In SPSS this is done by Edit > Options > Display/show variable names. Is there a way to do this with PSPP, perhaps via syntax? Many of my Stats students have started using PSPP this semester to avoid rental costs of SPSS and I didn't notice that the GUI defaulted to variable labels and not names (I always run syntax in PSPP). They're having a hard time finding the variables they need, especially in large datasets.
I don't think there is any way to change this globally. But if you right click on the dialog box, and on the popup-menu unselect the checkbox "Prefer value labels", then you will get names through-out that dialog box. I hope this helps.
