New issue 627 by [email protected]: Could we host proto.vim in a separate project?
http://code.google.com/p/protobuf/issues/detail?id=627

I'd like to push a version of the vim syntax file to a standalone github repository. Then you could reference it from this project instead of including one here with instructions to manually copy it into ~/.vim/syntax/, which will allow users the convenience of their own plugin manager (or, if they really want, they could continue to copy the file from a new location.

If I published a separate repo (something like https://github.com/google/vim-ft.proto), would there be interest in removing the version here and referencing the github one instead?
