you really ought to give FileBox Extender a spin (free trial)
i does just what you want and is easier than setting up shortcuts
(project paths change all the time for us at least)
it has a recently used folder list and a favorite list
it's pretty simple and unobtrusive
works with most everything except acad doesn't do as it tells it
but acad is surprising good about going where you would want it to go
