I don't have an answer to the Protel response, but have you tried a
software redirector or reformater program between the Protel and the printer?
We regularly use Fineprint from www.fineprint.com as a print to screen
printer which simulates the printer output and allows you to pass it on to
the real printer. If protel program doesn't like the print driver, try this
between them.
