As a nation you have lived beyond your means for many decades. You have borrowed more than you can repay and now the time to pay for this profligacy has arrived.
My country pays its way. That is why we dont have the massive problems you have. You have only ever been one savage financial disaster away from this point. Bush tied to put off this day and all he did was make the problem worse and now Obama has to his credit avoided the Depression that was headed your way. Now the really hard part comes - paying for all your past debts. And as for your petrol price... no one in the rest of the world cares. You still have the cheapest fuel in the world which in itself is part of your problem. You have some tough times ahead and any person that promises you an immediate rosy future or just more of the same policies is your enemy. Get used to obama. He will be around for a while. And his eventual successor will have much the same policies because your options are now limited to versions of the same austerity.
