Can't resist....I've found DoxBox, intended for games, to work exceptionally well in solving exactly this kind of problem (running a 16-bit app in unfriendly territory.)
I have a client who is running Great Plains Accounting software using DosBox...and no, not the newer Microsoft version of Great Plains...the old Pascal version developed on DOS 3.2. They still have to run some posting routines on an older system (Windows 2000 on a 150Mhz Pentium 1) but other than that, DosBox has really been a life-saver. Well worth the time to try it.
