Hi Adam, Don't see the "simple maths" on that page. Unless you are going from the "self defense" statistic with the assumption that the criminal was killed. In all the years I have carried I have drawn once - years ago - on a dog who was menacing me. The dog turned around and walked away upon seeing the gun, and I, of course, did not shoot. > NRA has similar figures..... http://www.vpc.org/nrainfo/phil.html This page indeed has that approximate figure, but not from "gun crime" which you assert. They break it down thus: "In 2003 alone, 30,136 Americans died by gunfire: 16,907 in firearm suicides, 11,920 in firearm homicides, 730 in unintentional shootings, and 232 in firearm deaths of unknown intent, according to the National Center for Health Statistics." Since 2003 the numbers have fallen. So you more than doubled the "gun crime" death figure! Unless you want to call suicide a crime. > Pete Theisen wrote: >> Adam Buckland wrote: >>> Yes it's the biggest incident since 1996 - 49 people were killed in >>> gun crimes in the last year whereas the Gun Owners of America concede > >>> that there were 31,250 killing from gun crime, that's 85 a day, >>> almost twice as many as in the UK in a whole year... > >> Can I trouble you for a link? > Searching the GOA website fails to turn up this "statistic".
