After reading this post I contacted our photocopier supplier who did in fact
confirm that the hard drives were non protected and easily accessible using
a standard PC.

On the basis that all our security auditing is geared towards the ISO 9000
specification this revelation blew a huge hole in our procedures and we have
now obtained a declaration that no hard disk from any multi finction copier
or printer will be taken off site. Also we have sealed access to the drives
so that we at least know if anyone has been trying to get access.

Thanks to whoever posted the original message.

I wonder how many other businesses are potentially under threat?

BTW - why do these machines want to store all those images for in the
first place?? Is that a Secret Service thing for (attempting to) thwart
counterfeiters or something??
