As for creating Temp files in our system - I don't really have a choice
- as I generally HAVE to follow the standard procedures. And, therefore
- they are created on the Network. 

Also - locking isn't an issue - since the Temp file ONLY exists and is
seen by this program when it runs (Unique named generated and all...).

By using the local drive, you will get better performance.
You won't have send & retrieve the data across the wire.
Plus if you're in a multi user setting, you won't get any locking
issues.
