Come to Atlanta in February to attend PyCon 2010 and also attend a tutorial "Building Desktop Applications with Dabo" by Ed Leafe and myself.
The tutorial will be focused on building a cross-platform data application from start to finish. Set up your database, code your bizobjs, lay out your UI and design your reports. Deploy your application to Mac, Windows, and Linux using 100% free libraries. In about 3 hours. Ed and I will switch off talking and coding so there's always something to watch on the screen while the other is explaining what's going on. At least that's the idea going in. ;) The tutorial is on Thursday afternoon, February 18 - a prime spot right before the conference officially begins. Early-bird registration has come and gone, but IMO the conference and tutorials are still a tremendous deal. Current registration is $300 plus $150 for each tutorial. There will be probably more than 1100 attendees this year, and the conference has been growing steadily each year but is still 100% community organized. There's always buzz in the hallway and late into the night. For full conference information, spend a few minutes clicking around http://us.pycon.org Carl Karsten of the FoxPro world just paid me a visit yesterday: he's gearing up to lead the PyCon video recording team: every tutorial and regular session will be professionally recorded by volunteers (including yours truly) and posted for free online for anyone interested. But that's no excuse for not coming: as you know you just can't reproduce the buzz of a live interactive real-world conference in your living room. In addition to the regular sessions and tutorials, there's a poster track this year plus the open spaces and birds-of-a-feather sessions. And the wifi doesn't suck, either. I think they bring in like 10 T1's and professional Cisco AP equipment to support the laptop-wielding attendee.
