All of this by way of saying: For all practical purposes, he might as well be THE Anti-Christ, since they all do the same thing when they acquire power. It's kind of like splitting hairs, except to think it's all coming to an end next week or something is almost certainly erroneous and not only leads to false hope but denies the truth of the prophetic scriptures already being fulfilled in terms of what they actually promised (vs. what people fashionably think they promised). Modern evangelical "end times" interpretations are only a hundred or so years old. As such, they're pretty much ingrained in most Christian denominations on some level, implicit in practice or custom, or explicit in doctrine, as the "correct" view, at the moment. But hearty research and a bit of careful exegesis supports my theory too, depending on your hermeneutic. YHMV. This is why stopping people like this matters, regardless. Their evil actions have dire consequences for fairly large chunks of time and on many souls as the dramatic unfolding of history goes on. It's also why, on some level, they cannot be stopped.
