Firefox is a huge memory hog, but must not be blamed for Windows needing a reboot. The operating system is supposed to be controlling how much memory each app gets, and cleaning it up when that application is closed or killed. The fact that an application can take down Windows points to flaws in the operating system, first and foremost. I run Firefox, various versions, on Windows XP, Ubuntu Linux, and Mac OS X. I've seen Firefox slow to a crawl or become unresponsive about equally on all three platforms. But I never need to reboot Mac or Linux - all I must do is force-quit Firefox and launch it again.
