Hi Stephen,

It is an often asked question, seems obvious, actually. The official
answer, however, is "no".

The explanation of that "no" is that the AIDS virus is too large for the
insect to deliver through her salivary glands *and* even if it were not
too large the incubation period is so long that the mosquito would die
before the virus developed in her system.

Now what if the mosquito were to nail an AIDS guy and then fly directly
to you and stick her sticker into you in less than a minute? There
wouldn't be enough blood in the little mosquito mouth to carry the
infection *and* she doesn't inject blood anyway but rather swallows it,
injecting only saliva.

Still gives you the creeps, doesn't it? Even if the mosquito could
transmit AIDS the government would have a huge incentive to deny it!

*If* the mosquito could and the government *admitted* it then they would
either have to do something about AIDS or do something about mosquitoes.
They aren't anywhere close to doing either.
