Depends on the community. In the rails community, MacBookPro is the
standard. Anything else is regarded as... weird. In the local Linux
community, it seemed to be a mix of pro-level Dell, HP, ThinkPad. At
the Red Hat conference, Thinkpad, but it didn't hurt that that's Red
Hat's corporate standard. At "An Event Apart" otoh, Macs.

Apple had great OOBE, agree, but I just got tired of the (gentle,
comfortable) handcuffs where OS X is almost UNIX except where it's
infuriatingly proprietary. I've gotten pretty comfortable with Fedora
on my ThinkPad.

Note sure that uber-geekiness is all it's reputed to be...
