Paul and Dave really ought to be ashamed. Pete -- whose only experience is
FoxPro -- was correct to choose this list to ask his Dabo questions under
the [NF] banner for two important reasons:

1. He was complying with the [NF] convention, which explicitly allows
discussions of non-fox technology, and for some reason I've noticed this
framework called Dabo keeps getting mentioned there... Or are only Dabo
posts of the "gee wiz you guys are so awesome!" variety (a la Crozier)
allowed, and posts intimating that it might not be so easy to use (a la
Pete's installation problem) are squashed with harsh ad-hominems? It only
reveals what we already know about the men behind the myth.

But it would still be ironic considering how incessantly they accuse other
people of being butt-boys for MS and shameless self-promoters. :|

2. The progenitors of Dabo are both on this list and have FoxPro
experience/perspective they could share to help Pete understand Dabo. No one
is asking them to "hold his hand" in this case, however ... a simple pointer
where he got lost or probably went wrong is all that was requested.

In any case, all the unsolicited career counseling was just plain unseemly
and uncalled-for.

Obviously, Paul harbors towards Pete an animosity that comes from his
political orientation. There is no other explanation. It's hard to imagine
any other hobbyist/newbie looking into Dabo getting that kind of foul
treatment by one of its creators.

Well, actually, I'll back off that statement, knowing a bit about Ed and
Paul...

I often object to Pete's closet socialism ;) but I would never begrudge his
earnest attempt at learning a new marketable skill or put him down for
trying. I did think the way he asked his question was a bit loaded (i.e.,
"has anyone ever installed this before"), but that's Pete, who was clearly
being facetious if not self-ironic to anyone who knows his colloquialisms
and his voice.

I believe old dogs can learn new tricks, and I like old dogs who try much
more than ones who think their sh*t doesn't stink and growl whenever their
get-thee-behind-me awesomeness is disturbed... Those dogs need a muzzle and
cage where they can't hurt anyone but themselves.
