I remember the Supreme Court recently addressing USA citizen's second amendment rights, and the ruling was we have a right to own and bear arms. I think it Justice Scalia that was questioning some laws that were overly restrictive.
For example, suppose its late at night and someone has broken into my house. It would be a little awkward, for example, if I had to get up and find a flash light, turn it on, and then craw around on the floor to find the clip to my pistol. Then, if some legislators had their way, I would have to find some way to hold the flash light while I enter a combination to release the trigger lock. Then, I would need to load the clip, insert it into my pistol, rack the slide to chamber the first round and place the trigger into single action mode before finally confronting the danger.
