First Ricardo: > Hey! I just noticed. He believes man is sinful by nature and must be > redeemed and needs to be regulated or regulate himself against > temptation. But he thinks that's not the case in man's economic > behaviour. He wants harsh restricting laws over people, but lax or non > existent laws over companies. Wow!
Then Geoff: > I had noticed the inconsistency.. Oh you guys are so smart. I don't think either one of you pays any attention. At what point did I say I want harsh laws over people? Never. This is your own caricature of my views of private morality. At what point did I say I want lax laws over companies? Never. This is your caricature of my views of public policy. All mankind needs redemption, but should be governed as much as possible by self-regulation, IMHO. Free will and all that. I am a republican, small 'r', with a fairly strong preference for Hamilton over, say, Jefferson, but by no means as statist. I generally vote Republican, but I don't like either party, and have some fairly consequential problems (on the issue of trade for example) with Republicans. I don't object in principle to government regulation, I merely want the government to be just as well regulated, and believe that regulations are no better for their sheer size or idiocy, and regulators are just as corruptible as the leaders of those evil companies out there. I prefer that people find redemption in Christ, not the works of man, be they private or public sector. I have a more or less Protestant view of the faith, having been born and raised Catholic. I don't think either the public or the private sector is inherently more virtuous, I just think history shows that the private sector creates more of the wealth that feeds the hungry and brings hope to the downtrodden than the public sector ever has or can. Do I from time to time dabble in views that are a little more "out there" than others? Do I consider things most people comfortably avoid thinking about? Yes I do. This is because I have an active mind that isn't afraid of swallowing the red pill so to speak. All you two ever do is sit back and snipe and criticize and get all shocked or appalled when I say something outside your little worldviews. I should just disengage both of you. I write "treatises" to be clear, expand on ideas, etc. All you two ever repay me with are sound bites and mischaracterizations of everything I say. - Bob _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
