- - - OBAMA BREAKS FROM BUSH, AVOIDS DEVISIVENESS President focuses on economy, world image and cleaning up government WASHINGTON - Barack Obama opened his presidency by breaking sharply from George W. Bush's unpopular administration, but he mostly avoided divisive partisan and ideological stands. He focused instead on fixing the economy, repairing a battered world image and cleaning up government. - - - Jesus Christ, talk about Moscow on the Potomac. Do I have to list the divisive things he's done in just his first 4 days in office??? OK, here they are: 1. Ordered the shutdown of Guantanamo Bay facilities in one year without a clear plan of action for what we're going to do with the thugs who are being kept there (even as a few notable graduates of Gitmo have gone on to rejoin Al Qaeda and continue to pose threats to our nation); 2. Ordered that federal dollars CAN now be used to fund "charities" abroad that promote or perform abortions--no divisive hot button there, to be sure; 3. Ordered that stem cell research can proceed now with full support of the federal government (even Bush took a couple months to ponder this one, and tried to come up with a compromise between scientific interests and ethical concerns---no such searching of the O's conscience on this controversial, dare I say DIVISIVE, issue); 4. Lectured Republicans in a meeting that was supposed to be about his economic electrocution (oops I mean stimulus) plan about whom they should (and should not) listen to on the radio; 5. Lectured a Politico reporter that The One shall not take questions except at officially blessed news conferences, lest He shall forbear to grace them with his Informal Presence; 6. Sided WITH the Bush Administration in an important wire tapping case (a broken promise there); 7. Waived his supposedly iron-clad rule that no lobbyists would work for his administration in the case of Lynn, whom he's appointing to (of all places) the DoD---another broken promise; 8. Authorized the murder of 18 civilians in Pakistan in the same manner that his predecessor has---though on the campaign trail he criticized his predecessor for doing it; Those are just the ones off the top of my head.
