Matt,
I was brought up on Pascal in the 70's and have used all versions of Borland
Pascal since the original Turbo Pascal on one 360Kb floppy In terms of
performance I can't speak loudly enough about Delphi. Also, since they
removed the dependence on the Borland database engine some years ago Delphi
has matured way past being standard Pascal.

If you want RAD development in a really structured language which runs as
fast as the Fox then take a look at it. The great thing about the product is
that there are addons everywhere and lots of free software but I have to say
that the development environment is now looking a little dated compared with
VS and data integration which we all love with VFP whilst simpler than when
using .NET (VB and C#) is still kludgy.

As with VFP there is a hardcore base of Delphi fans ad since Borland
offloaded the product this has given it a rebirth - I wish the same thing
had happened with VFP.

I certainly would look at the product for quick Desktop development but
prefer C# for enterprise development.

You certainly know that .Net has been added in as an extra as opposed to
being integrated from day 1.

You can download the basic Delphi software free along with Turbo C++ with a
restriction that you can't create commercial apps - much like the equivalent
Microsoft offering(s).

Subject: Delphi programmers vs. Foxpro programmers?

Anybody got a feel for the number Delphi programmers vs. the number of
Foxpro programmers?

I just heard the Delphi folks on a DotNetRocks podcast, and it sure sounded
like there is a lot of Delphi development going on (by Delphi). T hey
claimed to have done a lot to work .NET into it and vice versa.

Just curious what you all know about it.
