Hi folks, If this has already come up, I apologize. I'm about 3 weeks behind in my reading on this list.
Yesterday I was doing computer maintenance at work and encountered a problem on several machines. After running Windows Critical Updates on Win 2K SP 4 boxes as Domain Administrator, I logged off and logged into the boxes' restricted domain user accounts--the accounts used by the machines' ordinary users. Windows lost the restricted domain user profile and created a new one. I saw this happen on three different machines. I was able to restore the original user's profile via a Registry hack, and I subsequently discovered that the problem doesn't happen if I shut down the computer after doing the updates, cold boot it, and log into the restricted user account. I did not see this the last time I did Critical Updates on a machine--maybe two months ago--so it's something in MS's patches in the last two months. Has anybody else seen this? Thanks.
