I'm in Buenos Aires, Argentina. And sail in the Rio de la Plata (River
Plate), where the Graff Spee was sunk (I've seen some parts of it break
the surface when sailing to Colonia in Uruguay).
Once upon a time I lived aboard my 26 foot sail boat (believe me, it is
too small a place to live, but you have a wonderful back yard). In 2000
I sold it, quit my job and went to england for a year to attend a boat
building course. Had I stayed one more month I'd now have a "city &
guilds" certificate to attest for my workmanship, but alas, a matter of
the heart brought me back. I really regret not having stayed and have
the title.
So I came back with the plans of a 34' dory and some money to build it
and go cruising, went to Brazil to check if I could build it for less
money and being there my country went underwater (worse than what you
are undergoing right now). So the boat project was canceled. Now I'm
starting with a more modest project (hey, I'm married now!), last month
I built the dog a wooden house so as to get acquainted with wood again
and next week I'll start building her.
