Geez, and to think I felt pretty tough after winning a mere $79 dispute over
an undisclosed fee with Nextel when I had closed an account long after the
contract expired. Nextel fought and fought, not one person I dealt with
never gave an inch until I was able to produce a legal document stating the
account had been paid in full with no balance remaining. The document was a
manual check I wrote in the amount I felt was the correct final payment, and
on the back where they endorse it I wrote in that by negotiating the check
Nextel agreed the payment was a final payment and the account was now fully
paid. Worked like a charm. I got a call from the Executive Offices when I
sent yet another letter with a photocopy of the front & back of the check,
asking how many more dollars of their labor time and legal cost they were
willing to burn through to try to collect an undisclosed, hence illicit fee
of less than $80.00 that I would never pay.

This $19,370 matter would be an interesting challenge... For that I would
hire an attorney.
