I'd like to qualify it though. :) It is okay for a workstation to have a static (never-changing) ip as long as the client is set up to get the ip from a dhcp server. IOW, the dhcp server is configured to hand a static ip out based on the mac address. This really gives the best of all worlds and it isn't hard to set up either.
