I think any limit is going to be imposed by the architecture and OS. A 
32-bit OS is likely going to be limited at 2GB because of the memory 
addressing limits.

I could be wrong, though.

I know that vim on Linux 32-bit is limited to 2GB files, but vim on 
Linux 64-bit is limited to something like 4TB files.
