I found this in my "drafts" folder. It is kinda old, but I am still
clueless about this (among *so* many other things), so I thought I'd
re-title it and send it anyway.

My goodness -- pull those stars out of your eyes. Got a little chubby
going for the "O" man?

Call me cynical, but I just don't see how past-sophomoric people get
so overwrought about a big-time politician. Whether a big-city mayor,
State Senator, Governor, State Atty. General, US Representative, US
Senator, and certainly President/VP, these folks are just skilled
politicians, nothing more. They pander to you, tell you what you want
to hear, and when they get power, they abuse it (can you say
"earmarks?"). They also do anything (to Faustian magnitude) to hold
on to it.

A President with an opposing-party or mixed Congress can move
domestic policy 2 or 3% in his direction, if he is good. With a fully-
stocked Congress, maybe it is 10-15%. Anything more than, what, 7%
usually brings about a backlash of Newtical proportions. (What are
your numbers?)

I have come to believe that a mixed-up governance -- president of one
party, congress of another or mixed -- is the best situation for the
USA. That way, they can still F it up, but not too badly.

So tell me, people: Why get so excited over a mere politician? Very
few change anything significant, and those who do have Pyrrhic
victories.
