>That's too bad, because if anyone needs a head-shrinking, its you.

Aw come on now... Michael has both. The problem is that those of us who don't
want to tax everyone out the wazoo to pay for grand schemes that don't work are
accused of not caring. The fact is that we care about everyone... including
the poor taxpayer who get the bill for all this nonsense. Another fact is that
economic redistrubution is never more than a temporary fix. Many of our
problems are systemic in that there are subcultures within the overall culture
that are nonproductive, that have no idea how to be productive and, in some
cases, have no desire to be productive.
As a society, as in a garden, we see growth in the areas we feed and
contraction in the areas we neglect... so, as a society we need to work on
growing the productive segments. As individuals, those of us who have been
blessed with resources should be looking out for our neighbors in need. Many
who don't like this kind of involvement prefer the government to take from
everyone and give to the poor to ease their consciounces. We conservatives
still give individually anyway... because it's the right thing to do.
I would be willing to bet that most of the lefties who love government programs
would be hard pressed to show 1% of their income donated on the their tax
returns... if that much. While most of us on the right would laugh and ask to
see their sense of decency and compassion.
