Alan, No one really knows that we haven't. Cancer in all forms is on the rise as are other things such as Autism. Interesting study done not to long ago in the state of Texas. They mapped the number of cases of Autism across the state and then compared that to the most heavily industrialized counties in the state. It was almost a one to one correlation. The more industry, the more Autism. Who's to say with 100% certainty that monitors have not caused health problems?
I think the only safe thing to say is that we affect our environment in many ways beyond what we understand and that the world is changing.
