That's one of the best things parents and adults can help teens to understand. When you're a kid and everything seems to be so important, it is difficult to get an accurate fix on where your problems fit in with the rest of your life. If you don't have adults around that you respect and can talk to, you can wind up killing yourself over a temporary problem. It is easy to work yourself up when your emotions are raw. Steve taught high school and did a lot of suicide counseling with his students and others. He has an MA in human behavior and counseling, and a K-14 counseling credential, and did a lot of hours of training with Vietnam vets and battered women. For years he had kids calling him in the middle of the night when they were thinking of doing something stupid. As far as we know, none of the kids he counseled killed themselves.
