I would use only positive words and ideas like the benefit M$ could gain
out of this move -- especially in the developing countries where VFP
really has a large impact -- we at FoxInCloud can observe that every
day, though we can't draw any statistics -- we see many devs around 35
interacting with us.
In short I would avoid any wording giving the impression that they did
something wrong in the past, and/or argue about loyalty or this kind of
stuff.
Let's talk about business only.
I wish I could write something, it would be no more that Frenglish
unfortunately.

Took a look at the video and yeah, MS is definitely headed in a better
direction. Open source and, it seems, more interest in making developers
happy by including more languages in VS
But what about VFP? It hurt to listen to him brag about the growing list of
languages supported by Visual Studio and not mention FoxPro. If Pascal and
PHP got on the list, then surely something could be provided for FoxPro. Is
it that MS not only decided not to create VFP10, but also to hold VFP'ers
head under water to force a conversion nobody wanted or needed? Not building
version 10 was one thing, but harming the salability of FoxPro products is
quite another. Adding FoxPro as a supported language to their list of
languages would go a long way to supporting existing VFP apps in the
marketplace - while continuing to omit it only makes FoxPro appear worse.
It's MS's own strategy that brings this to the table because by presenting
VS with a long list of supported languages begs for the list to include
FoxPro
I can still hear the thunder of BG announcing that anyone in a meeting who
brought up FoxPro would be fired. Seems that set an MS attitude that remains
in force to this day. Is there someone else in MS who can re-think the
company's position on getting FoxPro into VS?
There isn't a single reason why MS can't do *something* to help us bring our
applications forward. Bringing FoxPro into Visual Studio, even with minimal
support (other languages mentioned don't use the CLR) at first, would be a
good thing. And, consistent with the open source attitude, maybe it's a good
time to make the ProFox source code available to a group willing to further
the effort.
How can MS expect to woo developers by saying how much they care about them,
while at the same time demonstrating a very different attitude with FoxPro?
I'd like to post something like the following to the article, but thought
I'd run it past the list first because it starts with "we FoxPro developers
...",
"We FoxPro developers see here an opportunity for MS to settle its account
with the thousands of FoxPro developers the company harmed by discontinuing
FoxPro development. By revisiting the company's position on FoxPro and
bringing it into the Visual Study fold they will show developers they are as
loyal to developers as they want developers to be to them. The new MS tilt
towards open source and their obvious huge interest in developer mindshare
is also an opportunity for the company to right a wrong that will be heard
around the dev world"

Fellow Fox Gang,
For once I am actually "enthusiasti"c about something that M$ has released
and the direction they have taken. No longer is Open Source a dirty word at
M$ and they also have encompassed OSX and Linux - previously the dreaded
"Enemy".
Take a look at this and it may bring a few wry smiles to your battle worn
faces when you look back at how intransigent M$ were in the past. If this
thought technology had been there a few years ago then maybe VFP would still
be a thriving product.
Maybe, just maybe there is an opportunity to resurrect VFP in some shape or
form using the "Visual Studio Code" in the video below. If they can do it
for Pascal etc. (See video) then they can do it for (as they say) Any
Language. I may well take a poke around over the weekend and see. Why not
take a look and make your own judgements.
