VFP9SP2 with MariaDB (MySQL) backend

Check out this simple 3-variable screenshot: http://mbsoftwaresolutions.com/images/xfiles.png

tCheckin is in a VFP cursor and is empty. xx was defined as follows:

xx = {/:}

The reason I'm baffled is because my code to test for EMPTY(tCheckin) doesn't find this record in the cursor. It says it's NOT empty. HUH?!?!?

The workaround is to check for DAY(tCheckIn) = 0. BIZARRE!!!! Hence the reference to the X-Files TV show of yesteryear.
