I once had a module on my main screen It had a timer that tracked the mouse position every x period (say 5 minutes) It it was the same position, it would popup a message, reset the timer to 1 minute, and if the mouse position still the same after 1 minute, it would shut down (gracefully)
I implemented this module but removed it after a highly embarrassing failure, and never re-introduced it. I hope this may be helpful I can't recall the reason why it failed on the mentioned occasion.
