Man. I tried and tried to get VSS working sanely and failed, and I was just a
single developer. That was probably 1999. Before that my boss had me use the
zip file method. Better than nothing but what a mess, especially since I was
unaware of all the utilities like grep and diff that make me so productive
today.

After that it was CVS on Windows, also a disaster. It wasn't until I moved to
Linux that CVS worked for me. And just when I had a handle on that everyone was
switching to Subversion.

It's sort of painful to keep up with the modern things, which is why I take a
wait and see approach before diving in to something that has the hype. Which is
why I kept using Subversion for so long. But it allowed Git to mature and 3
years ago when I dived in I came up in a daze with all the power and
productivity gains it brought me.

Sorry to say it but I'd hate my job if I were still using zip or VSS today,
because those methods are tedious and complicated in comparison.

Paul
