Welcome (back?) to the world you left a while back. It hasn't improved.
I installed Win 8.0 on two machines. Replaced one with an enterprise 8.1 I got
thru a TechNet (I think) subscription from a non-profit I belong to. It
worked, but finding which product key to enter thru which procedure took a
while (enterprise don't work like just buying it does.
The other on, on my laptop, I 'upgraded' to 8.1 through the G... D... Store.
That was even worse than the Enterprise caper.
So I went out and bought a Mac Mini, with the Fusion Disk and the quad-core i7.
I put Parallels on it and tried to buy an 8.1 from the MS store that I could
do a clean install from. No luck, they don't have any!! Managed to buy an OEM
version from Fry's.
I've got it all running, which puts me about where you (and Ed Leafe, I think
also) were 3 or 4 years ago. MS has completely lost what capabilities they had.
Man, that Mac Mini is one sweet (and fast) machine!
