You may want to give this company a call. http://www.ixsystems.com/storage/ Evidently they have excellent customer service that know their stuff. They can recommend hardware to fulfill your needs, whether it is their systems or other systems.

Thanks for the lead, Kevin! Great folks at iX Systems (especially a guy named Kevin?! Coincidence? maybe....)

Anyway, they build solid FreeNAS-based boxes at reasonable prices. He quoted me a kick-butt system for $6,900 that should provide way more horsepower than needed.
