Thanks. See below:

Example Configuration

Samba as a Domain Member Server

This method involves addition of the following parameters in the smb.conf file:

security = domain
workgroup = MIDEARTH
In order for this method to work, the Samba server needs to join the MS Windows NT security domain. This is done as follows:

On the MS Windows NT domain controller, using the Server Manager, add a machine account for the Samba server.

On the UNIX/Linux system execute:

root# net rpc join -U administrator%password

Hm. This implies that the Mac must, indeed, join the domain.

Since OSX is a species of BSD Unix, perhaps the above would work without SAMBA being installed on the Mac? (If, indeed, it is not installed, as I wondered in a previous post.)

There's no "Server Manager" on the ClearOS SAMBA 3 PDC. Not sure what the equivalent smb.conf lines would be to "create a machine account" for the Mac.

I will refer this to the consultant who set up this domain. He's been trying to figure this out also, despite a dearth of Mac experience.

Thanks again. Any other thoughts are welcome.
