I used to import an EDI file that was fixed width into VFoxpro. If I
remember correctly, the first 2 characters indicated the field type. We
would import that into a temp table. Let's call it tempTable1 and the
structure was:
CREATE TABLE tempTable1 (cFieldType C(2), cField1 C(200), cField2
C(200), cField3 C(200), etc.)
We would append it into these tables, and then split them out by type
after that point. Using SQL it was incredibly fast. I wonder if MySQL
could import it as:
CREATE TABLE tempTable1 (cFieldType Character(2), cField1 TEXT)
Just a thought.

MariaDB/MySQL backend
I'm trying to import some large (over 2GB) text files and on re-reading
the LOAD DATA INFILE function, it seems like it's only able to import
delimited records, not fixed width/position records.
Is there a way to do the import with fixed width and no delimiters? How
would you SQL Server dudes do it there?
