Nagios - THAT's the one I was trying to remember from my good ol'
Linux days of yore....

I tried doing something Linux box related when I started here 4 years
ago and that was immediately nixed.... not the corporate standard ya
know...

Also, if we did, I'd be the only one with a clue how to work with the
box, and heaven forbid I should get a couple hours to cross train
someone...

I'll look into Nagios for a more recent idea of what it can do -
