And I guess that's why IBM has invested so heavily in Linux, huh? :) Not 
to mention just about every other computer company on the planet. There 
used to be a day when software was free, long time ago. I'd even bet you 
remember those days...

I've been around computers for a long time and can't remember that day. Way
back in the day, even before Microsoft took off, we would buy our OS's that
came with a rather big price but a nice binder and real printed
documentation. Before the PC, there was the mini/mainframe where people paid
a LOT of money for software. In fact, up until recently, IBM still made more
money selling software than Microsoft. It wasn't the stuff you would see on
your PC but from the old licensing model that corp big iron ran on for
decades. You wouldn't own anything but pay through the nose on a monthly
basis.
