I understand your point, but there is another side.
My main system is still my XP box. Because Microsoft cut the
legs out from 16-bit, I still have not shifted over to Windows 7. If
Microsoft had continued supporting 16-bit program on 64-bit Windows,
I might well have switched, but since they make it difficult, I have not.
"Please let me out of your economy. I don't think I could
afford it." also applies to the treadmill of continuous changing. (I
will not dignify it with the word "upgrading".)
